The Story
Dr. Upton Allen was looking forward to welcoming colleagues from around the world to Toronto for the 12th International Symposium on Pneumococci and Pneumococcal Diseases. As one of the major conferences in the field, he saw bringing the event to Toronto as an opportunity to bring world leaders together with the long-term goal of improving patient care. He also wanted attendees to get to know Toronto beyond the conference itself. He pointed to the city’s restaurants, theatres, welcoming atmosphere and proximity to Niagara as reasons attendees and their families would enjoy their time here. With international leaders in pneumococci and related fields attending, he hoped they would return home and share their experience of Toronto with others.
