Hosting a congress is more than winning a bid. It’s about bringing your sector’s leaders together in one place.
What lasts goes beyond the meeting: stronger connections with peers and institutions, greater recognition in your field, and the opportunity to celebrate your contribution at the Leaders Circle Recognition Celebration.
A partnership, with you at the front
You bring the standing in your sector. We bring a team that knows how international congress bids are won.
Leading a conference bid means leading the academic expertise. Depending on the association’s guidelines, you judge whether an opportunity is worth pursuing, bring your institution and your peers to the table, shape the academic theme the proposal is built on, contribute to the bid proposal, and speak for Toronto when the case is made. Leaders Circle assists with the strategy and researches the case for the city, and Destination Toronto compiles the bid proposal, coordinates letters of support from government, and more.
Once a conference is won, its ambassadors may be eligible for the Leaders Circle Research Grant, up to $50,000 for a project aligned with the conference’s focus. Beyond the grant, ambassadors join a standing network of sector leaders and are celebrated among their peers at the Leaders Circle Recognition Celebration.
Engineering’s biggest meetings come to Toronto, led by people like you.
Leaders across engineering and applied
technology have brought their international conferences here
Leaders Circle has helped bring engineering and applied-technology conferences to Toronto, with more on the way. Examples include the 25th Congress of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, the international gathering for photogrammetry and spatial information sciences, and the IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics, hosted by one of the world’s largest and most respected engineering associations.
In their words
“The conference was quite successful. We had several areas of collaboration between Canadian and international delegates.”
In their words
“I am so proud and so excited to have this event in Canada.”
In their words
“The 2021 International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing is the premiere conference in signal processing.”
At the centre of Canada's manufacturing economy
For a technical congress, the host region is part of the draw. It shapes which industry partners stand behind your program, which schools supply your speakers, and how readily your delegates and sponsors can reach you. The Toronto region sits at the heart of Canada's manufacturing base, home to leading engineering schools and a dense concentration of manufacturing and technology industry. For your delegation, that is an audience and a set of partners already in place.
Bringing your congress here connects that base to a community of engineering and industry leaders who have done the same, in one of the world’s most connected cities. Hosting your field’s meeting in Toronto puts your discipline, and your city, on the map. Toronto is a major international gateway, with the connections and capacity a global technical delegation requires — which matters most when your delegates and exhibitors travel from every part of the world.
Questions engineering leaders ask
International engineering congresses rotate between countries, and each is awarded through a bid to the association or federation that owns it. The bid needs a local host from within the field to put it forward, often a member of the society’s local section, working with a team that builds the case. In Toronto, Leaders Circle brings the strategy and guidance, Destination Toronto delivers the bid services, and you provide the standing that comes from being known in your field. There is no fee to take part.
Yes. Ambassadors come from universities, from industry, and from across both. What matters is that you are active in the field and connected to a professional society, not which side of it you work on. Most ambassadors have never led a bid before, and Leaders Circle and Destination Toronto handle the process around you.
Where a congress includes an exhibition or an industry program, those are planned as part of the event’s own budget, with a professional organizer managing the logistics. Your part stays in the leadership and the connections you bring, while the team handles the operational side.
Toronto sits at the centre of Canada’s manufacturing and technology base, with leading engineering schools and a dense concentration of industry close by. A congress here reaches both the researchers and the companies working in the field, which matters when a meeting brings an exhibition or industry program with it.
