Robert Haller helped bring the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition 2022 to Toronto to give Canadian water innovation and entrepreneurs a global stage. With support from Toronto’s convention team throughout the bid process, the Canadian Water and Wastewater Association secured the opportunity to welcome the international water community to the city.

The Story

Robert Haller saw bringing the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition to Toronto as an opportunity to put Canadian innovation in front of an international audience. As Executive Director of the national association representing water workers across Canada, he wanted Canadian entrepreneurs with solutions that could help the planet to have the chance to showcase their work to the world, right here in Toronto.

Toronto’s multicultural character was also central to the bid. Haller saw the city as a place with a community for everyone and a strong example of a global city. When the time came to submit the official bid, he credited the convention team with helping prepare the bid and budget, connecting his association with the meetings they needed and hosting the advance group. In his words, without the whole team behind them, they would not have won the conference.
