Dr. Sheldon Williamson brought the IEEE 18th International Conference on Industrial Technology to Toronto to showcase Canadian leadership in areas including electric transportation, microgrids, smart grids and renewable energy systems. The conference created opportunities for Canadian and international delegates to collaborate with each other and with Toronto-based academic and research institutions.

The Story

Dr. Sheldon Williamson chose Toronto for the IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology because he saw the city as a hub for Canadian industry and a strong platform for showcasing the country’s work to an international audience. In particular, he wanted to highlight Canadian expertise in electric transportation, microgrids, smart grids and renewable energy systems.

Looking back on the conference, Williamson considered it a success. Canadian and international delegates found opportunities to collaborate, including with academic units and research institutes based in Toronto, while the social program gave attendees another way to connect. Based on that experience, he strongly recommended Toronto for future IEEE events, pointing to the city, conference venues and hotels as strengths for delegates and support staff.
