Jim McArthur helped bring the 27th Congress of the International Federation of Hospital Engineering to Toronto, returning the international event to Canada after more than 30 years. The congress provided an opportunity to showcase Canadian standards in healthcare facilities and engineering to delegates from around the world, with support from the Leaders Circle and Tourism Toronto throughout the bid process.
The Story
Jim McArthur and the Canadian Hospital Engineering Society saw an opportunity to bring the International Federation of Hospital Engineering Congress back to Canada after more than 30 years. With delegates expected from countries including Australia, Japan and South Africa, McArthur wanted the event to showcase the high standards of healthcare facilities and engineering in Canada while welcoming an international audience significantly larger than their usual conferences.
Toronto offered both the healthcare engineering expertise and tourism appeal they wanted to share with IFHE members from around the world.
McArthur described the support from the Leaders Circle and Tourism Toronto as a tremendous relief. From day one, the team helped put the bid submission together, coordinate its different components and make connections with different levels of government, contributing to support from the federal and provincial governments and the Mayor of Toronto.
