But those figures tell only part of the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some of the most enduring effects are harder to quantify. They take shape in the relationships built across borders, the mentorship that continues after the closing session, and the opportunities that give students and emerging leaders a chance to step onto an international stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through Leaders Circle Ambassadors, international meetings can become more than momentary gatherings. They can serve as a springboard for emerging leaders from around the globe, opening doors to new networks, mentorship, and hands-on leadership experiences that can resonate well beyond the event itself.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1063\" height=\"598\" src=\"https:\/\/theleaderscircle.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/WHC_0H5A5465_w1200px-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2052\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Intellectual ROI: A Students Perspective<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participation in international meetings gives emerging scholars the opportunity to refine their ideas, learn from world-leading experts, and establish connections that can shape their future careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through her Leaders Circle Research Grant project <em>\u00ab\u00a0What Are International Conferences Worth?\u00a0\u00bb<\/em>, Ambassador Dr. Patrizia Albanese (Professor &amp; Vice-Provost of Faculty Affairs, Toronto Metropolitan University) examined the impact of the 2018 ISA World Congress of Sociology by giving students the platform to answer that question from their own perspectives.<ins><\/ins><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students described international meetings as an important gateway to global knowledge and professional connections. They said these gatherings demystify networking with established experts, and counter the isolation of research by building interactive, cross-cultural networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hear directly from the students:<\/strong> Watch the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Ro_nzSAAO7M\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">video feature<\/a> to see emerging scholars share why international meetings matter to the next generation of leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Empowerment in Action: Extending Impact Through Grant Support<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ambassadors actively channel the Leaders Circle Research Grant to break down financial barriers and advance global equity:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ambassador Mrs. Kathryn McManus (One Harp World) used grant funding to subsidize access for emerging artists from diverse backgrounds, enabling them to build global networks and grow opportunities for their future career in the arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ambassador Prof. Derek Lichti for the XXV ISPRS Congress directed research grant funds to bring 65 international students from the Global South to Toronto, making the event accessible to underrepresented young scholars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Students as Co-Architects: Shaping the Conference Floor<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leaders Circle Ambassador, Professor Sheldon Williamson (Department of Electrical, Computer, and Software Engineering), Chair of both the 34th IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE 2025) and the IEEE 18th International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT 2027) deepened the legacy of these events by turning emerging scholars into active co-designers. He championed student leaders on the planning committee who served directly in driving technical sessions, volunteer coordination, and on-site operations to guarantee seamless execution. Working collaboratively, student teams also led outreach, communications, and attendee engagement, cultivating an inclusive, welcoming, and world-class experience for international delegates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u00ab\u00a0Working together provided students with valuable leadership, project management, and networking opportunities while contributing meaningfully to the success of the conference.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em> &#8211; <strong>Professor Sheldon Williamson<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What Will Your Conference Legacy Be?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bringing an international meeting to Toronto is about more than showcasing world-class research and expertise.
